A Little Background

Hello and welcome.

My name is Deb and I’m a Gamer’s mom and mom to multiple gamers.

Games are big in our family, and in our extended family. We
have lots of games. Games of all types and complexity levels. Games for the
young, and the young at heart. Indoor games, outdoor games, party games and
family games. Single player or multi player; we have them all. We even make games out of things that are not usually considered a game.

When I consider the term “game” I think broadly. I know many
people would automatically think video games when hearing the word gamer. Not
me. I think of all sorts of games. I could be dating myself by admitting to
that mindset. I’m ok with that.

I love to play games that involve strategy and make me
think,  also ones that promote socialization. If I can have a good laugh along the way, even better.

My kids love to play games too. My sons like the more active ones, hockey is a favourite. And they like video games too. My daughters have never been much for video games. Perhaps that’s because they couldn’t get the consoles away from their brothers when they were growing up. The girls like strategy games and games that are done in groups with opportunity for socializing. My grandchildren are still very young but already my grandson is drawn to video games and likes to join in on the fun.

When we have a family dinner, its a great time for games. We often play teams to make the game flow faster. If we’re playing a trivia game, great grandma joins in too. We don’t always play the same teams. Sometimes its males versus females and sometimes it’s one side of the table against the other. It doesn’t seem to matter how we split it up, the more competitive ones always remember who was on the winning team at the last clan gathering.

What is Gamers Mom all About?

Gamers’ Mom is about the gaming experience in the broader sense. Games, games, and more games. Posts will be about different applications for games and an exploration of the benefits of gaming for young and old alike. What draws us to game play, what are the common threads in games, what makes a good game, and are games good for us? What are popular games and what make’s them unique. What are the old standards in game play? How do we learn a new game? All of these items will be touched on over time.

If you have any questions please feel free to leave them below and I will be more than happy to offer a reply.

All the best, and happy gaming!
